Quotas on mineral fertilizers import will not be introduced, as it is against the interests of Ukraine. This decision was published today by the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade.
UAC upholds this decision, which is unprecedented today, as it was adopted not in the interests of the oligarch, but in the national interests of Ukraine. During the month, the entire agrarian community fought against the introduction of quotas on fertilizer import and the final monopolization of the market, explaining the Government the facts about the harmfulness of such a step for the Ukrainian economy. To hear them, farmers went out to protest campaigns on the roads, at the Cabinet and the President's Office.
"UAC has been fighting against an oligarch Dmytro Firtash since 2016 and for the first time we won. This time we won and defended our legal right to the market price. However, the resistance does not end there. After all, “OstChem's” monopoly on the fertilizer market, unfortunately, remains. Moreover, this monopoly, according to the decision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, should be divided forcibly. Only after that, farmers will have a fair price for local fertilizers. We will continue to fight for this!” - the UAC chairman emphasized.
The All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council thanks the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskii, the People's Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Agrarian and Land Policy, as well as the Deputies of the European Parliament and the Lithuanian Seimas for their support outside our country.
Let’s remind, that in the end of May it became known that according to the results of the investigation of the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Agriculture had an idea to introduce quotas on nitrogen fertilizers import from Ukraine's trading partners – EU countries, Persian Gulf countries, North Africa, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Georgia, China, USA.
Leading agrarian associations have sharply criticized this intention, as they saw it as lobbying the interests of the Ukrainian fertilizer monopolist, the company group “OstChem”, which includes the main fertilizer factories and belongs to oligarch Dmytro Firtash.
