Ukraine's annual losses due to mined agricultural land amount to more than USD11 billion. These are the funds that the state budget loses due to a decrease in revenues from food exports. Over the two years of the full-scale war, about 2 million hectares of agricultural land have been contaminated with ammunition, of which 400,000 hectares have been cleared.
This was discussed in the “Podrobytsi” air.
The state has introduced a program to compensate farmers for the agricultural land demining. However, the expected costs of demining often do not correspond to the actual costs incurred by operators. Nevertheless, farmers continue to clear their land on their own. The cost of demining one hectare can reach several thousand dollars, depending on the contamination of the territory.
Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the UAC noted:
“You return to your enterprise, which has been destroyed, looted, and the fields are mined. In such conditions, it is very difficult to find funds. We, as the UAC, collected financial assistance for those producers who wanted to cultivate a hectare of potentially contaminated land on their own.”
The World Bank estimates that Ukraine will need USD35 billion to fully demine the entire territory.
