Productive cattle breeding lost more than 50,000 livestock during the war. These losses should be compensated, and it should be stressed on the development of animal husbandry as an industry that produces added value.
The UAC Deputy Chairman Denys Marchuk mentioned this at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center:
"Livestock farming has suffered significant destruction, a recent example is the artillery shelling of one of the farms in Zaporizhia region, where livestock was destroyed and milking parlors were destroyed. During the war, Ukraine lost more than 50,000 productive livestock. It will be necessary to make up for it. Nowadays, the Ukrainian Agri Council, together with its partners and the Association of Milk Producers, are conducting negotiations on the import of cattle from other countries of the world, in particular from the EU, to the territory of Ukraine for our enterprises, which are ready to develop animal husbandry in the future. Animal husbandry is a key industry that Ukraine should bet on, because milk production is a source of added value, processing is currently quite promising. For the next six months, our task is to create the vision of enterprises that will be specialized on added value."
However, setting up processing and generating added value requires investment.
"We should think about where to look for investors, and how to attract state programs, it means financing to support the above-mentioned projects. The best investor in wartime is the domestic investor. I am sure that there will be people who understand that the agricultural sector is quite promising. Foreign business will not be in a hurry to enter, because the risks for them are quite high, and global business likes when there is peace and quiet. But the war has showed that even in difficult conditions there are domestic investors who are ready to take responsibility. Thanks to the active actions of the Armed Forces, it becomes clear that investments in Ukraine will have prospects," added Denys Marchuk.
