The Ukrainian Agri Council (UAC) is initiating legislative changes to protect farmers whose land is used for fortifications in frontline areas.
Bill No. 14117, “On compensation to owners and users of land plots on which fortifications are located,” which was prepared by UAC experts, provides for compensation to farmers for the loss of the ability to cultivate such plots and pay taxes. We are initiating a bill on fortifications so that farmers in frontline territories whose land is used by the military can receive compensation. After all, they have no harvest, but they still have to pay taxes and rent, which is a huge expense for small producers," said Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the UAC, during a speech on Yedyny Novyny. He also stressed that preferential loans and state agricultural insurance should become additional tools to support producers.
