The Ukrainian Agri Council (UAC), which represents the interests of 1,300 medium and small agricultural enterprises throughout Ukraine, has appealed to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko and the Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kipper, with a request to urgently resolve the issue of mineral nitrogen fertilizer imports.

The appeals emphasize that the situation on the mineral fertilizer market is only getting worse due to their shortage, which may soon lead to a sharp decline in crop yields.

The key factor in this is the prohibition on imports into Ukraine through seaports not only of grade A ammonium nitrate, which is indeed an explosive substance, but also of other nitrogen fertilizers, which are completely non-explosive,” is mentioned in the letter.

The UAC emphasizes that Ukraine is currently completely dependent on imports for mineral fertilizers, and fertilizer application takes place during this season.

Without this, it is impossible to ensure the future harvest. If this problem is not urgently resolved, next year the country will face a 30% reduction in the yield of key crops and, as a result, a food crisis,” the UAC warns.

Farmers are calling on the government and regional authorities to immediately return to this issue and ensure the unblocking of imports through Ukraine's seaports of at least the following basic mineral fertilizers: UAM (urea-ammonia mixture), ammonium sulfate, urea, potassium chloride, superphosphate, NPK 10-26-26, 8-20-30, 18-18-18, and 20-20-20.

We hope for support and believe that together we can avoid a drop in yields and preserve the fertility of Ukrainian soils,” the farmers emphasize.
