For further autumn field work campaign, the Ukrainian agricultural sector additionally needs UAH80-90 billion of funding from the state. These funds are needed to complete harvesting campaign and start autumn sowing campaign. This was stated by the UAC Chairman Andriy Dykun.
"The task of the state is to find these funds so that the agricultural sector does not stop its work. The task of farmers is to preserve harvested crops," he said.
According to him, the state can support farmers with various tools: carry out state interventions and buy back part of the harvest or help with grain storage.
"For 30 years, our country exported its harvest through ports. Ports are blocked nowadays. Yes, negotiations are ongoing in Turkey regarding unblocking, there are certain results, but the words of Russians are worthless. It is impossible to trust them. Nowadays, about 20 million tons of last year's grain are in warehouses. This creates a number of problems: farmers do not have money, because the harvest is not sold, because of this there is no funding for full-fledged harvesting, paying wages and servicing the farm. There is also no free space in warehouses for the new harvest," Andriy Dykun noted.
The only one thing we can say - that this year's harvest will be half as much as in 2021.
"This year, we expect to collect about 50 million tons of grain. Yes, Ukraine will be provided with food, but this amount will wait for implementation. Last year, the agricultural sector accounted for 17% of the country's GDP. This year, considering the fact that the metallurgical industry is almost destroyed, farmers are the main fillers of the state’s budget. But it is difficult for farmers to work, especially whose farms are near the front line. A lot of territory is occupied, and the adjacent territories are constantly attacked with artillery, so the work is stopped. Talking about de-occupied territories many farmers did not sow because there were mined fields, machinery and equipment were lost. The scale of losses for the agricultural sector is large and they have not yet been calculated," Andrii Dykun emphasized.
But he also added that the agricultural sector needs stability and the ability to sell products for normal activity. The agricultural community hopes that the state will find money to support farmers. Next, we need to defeat the enemy and unblock the ports, added Andriy Dykun.
