On November 2, 2022, the Ukrainian Agri Council (UAC) and the USAID Agriculture Growing Rural Opportunities Activity (AGRO) signed a sub-award agreement, according to which more than 200 MSMEs throughout Ukraine will receive grain storage services. According to the agreement, AGRO will distribute through UAC 4,000 polymer grain sleeves and 10 grain loaders and UAC will provide farmers with the grain storage services. The support provided within USAID’s Agriculture Resilience Initiative - Ukraine launched in July to support grain storage, export, processing, production, and access to finance.
The UAC sub-award will help agrarians to store up to 800 thousand tons of grain, enhance sustainability of their business and ensure national and global food security amid war. Agriproducers will pay a fee to the storage service providers, which will ensure the farmers’ harvest is well-looked after until it’s time to sell. The services will include packing and unpacking, marketing, and creating joint batches.
