The Ukrainian Agri Council (UAC) emphasized the need to provide more significant assistance to support farmers in the frontline and near-frontline areas.

During the “United News” telethon, the UAC Deputy Chairman Denys Marchuk emphasized the importance of suspending loans for farmers who were forced to leave the occupied territories.

“Farmers who left the occupied territories were left without the possibility of financing, although they have extensive experience in the agricultural sector. Banks continue to demand repayment of loans taken out before the war, which makes it impossible for experienced producers to develop further. The UAC proposes to suspend loan repayments for farmers who have left the occupied territories until the war is over. This decision will allow them to resume their activities without financial pressure,” said Marchuk.

In addition to the problem with loans, farmers in the frontline areas face a low level of financial support from the government.

“Currently, agricultural producers, operating near the zone of hostilities, receive support in the amount of 1,000-2,000 UAH per hectare. However, given the constant shelling and weather challenges, including drought, this support is insufficient. Producers need much more financial assistance, as the current payments do not meet the real conditions,” the expert emphasized.

Denys Marchuk also emphasized the importance of extending the 5-7-9 state lending program, which ends in 2025.

“The 5-7-9 state lending program is a real help for agricultural producers. It allows them to obtain funds for business re-lending and stay afloat in these difficult conditions,” said the UAC Deputy Chairman.
