The Ukrainian Agri Council considers unacceptable the unilateral extension of the embargo on Ukrainian agricultural products by Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. In this regard, the UAC supports the claims of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine to the World Trade Organization regarding the restriction of free trade by these three countries. In addition, the UAC calls on the Ukrainian government to consider additional countermeasures against these countries.
At the same time, some countries restrict not only imports but also transit of our products. This is done both openly and secretly, using various bureaucratic levers against our agricultural goods that are sent to ports in third countries.
"It is unacceptable to apply restrictive measures against the export of agricultural products from Ukraine during the largest war since the Second World War. Neighboring EU countries imposed an embargo back in April this year, weakening our economy by hundreds of millions of euros. And all of this is happening at a time when our country has been defending the peace of Europe for a year and a half at the cost of lives and constant shelling of civilian cities and infrastructure. We would like to remind you that the world's largest country has militarily blocked the movement of Ukrainian civilian vessels at sea, is totally mining our territories, shelling grain storage facilities and openly stealing our crops. We believe that the continuation of the ban on imports of agricultural products plays into the hands of the criminal Kremlin authorities," the UAC said in a statement.
In addition, these EU countries are now expanding the list of goods banned from importation into their territory. Previously, the embargo covered 4 types of agricultural products. Now Hungary is prohibiting 25 types, and Poland is adding our flour and feed to the import prohibitions.
The prohibition on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, which was supposed to last until September 15, was not extended by the European Commission. Adherence to free trade and good neighborly relations will help Ukraine overcome the consequences of the war waged by Russia against us. At the same time, Ukraine should reserve the right to legally defend its rights in international markets.
