Recent UN messages, including the Secretary-General's proposal to ease sanctions on Russia in exchange for grain supplies, are unacceptable.
"I consider it inadmissible to ease sanctions against Russia. The fact that Ukrainian ports must be unblocked in order to export grain is true, but without easing sanctions against Russian invaders. When the food crisis is unfolded – famine will begin, the world will face big questions about the UN’s activity. It was the UN that had to do everything to prevent this war from starting. Negotiations are underway in the world to allow Russia to sell potassium. But such permission is equivalent to giving money to Russia for further murders of our children. 25,000 civilians have already been killed in Mariupol, and such facts make it impossible to even speculate on easing sanctions against Russia,” said the UAC Chairman Andrii Dykun.
In his opinion, since the UN includes the FAO organization responsible for food security, FAO together with the UN should have warned the world about the food crisis because of war between Ukraine and Russia.
"Six months before the war, when all the media talked about the possibility of invading Ukraine - even then the UN had to raise its voice against war and stand up for food security. The FAO had to explain there would be a global food crisis, famine, and rising food prices because of war. The UN and FAO were silent on the eve of war and even in the first month of hostilities. Nowadays Ukrainians are running from war, and tomorrow - citizens of other countries will run from hunger. Yes, no one wants to cause panic in other countries so as not to get millions of refugees. If the war does not stop, there will be a catastrophe the world has never seen before. The situation that existed in Ukraine in 1933 will be repeated in other countries of the world," the UAC Chairman emphasizes.
As for the development of alternative ways to export grain through the EU, they are not enough to solve the problem of the global food crisis.
"Nowadays European ports are not ready for the volumes of products available in Ukraine. For 30 years, Ukraine has been building logistics with a focus on seaports rather than western borders. Yes, we will export and try to alleviate the difficult economic situation. However, only a sufficient number of weapons can help to destroy the Russian fleet or the intervention of NATO ships," said Andrii Dykun.
