In the southern regions of Ukraine, the first sunflower harvesting has started. The weather is favorable for the harvest of this oilseed, as significant precipitation is not expected in the coming weeks. The market is gradually shifting to trading in the new harvest, which has both demand and decent prices.
This issue was discussed on August 22 during a weekly briefing organized by the analytical center of the PUSK cooperative, created within the UAC.
"The new sunflower harvest is already being traded on FOB and CIF basis, recently Italy purchased a thousand tons of Ukrainian oilseed at the price of 465 USD/t. Processors are already announcing prices at the level of 370 USD/t excluding VAT, and it is expected that the purchase prices in August-September will be in the range of 14,500-15,000 UAH/t. Forecasters predict high air temperatures and no precipitation, nothing will interfere with the harvesting campaign, so the supply of sunflower will grow. Accordingly, if there will be no significant precipitation, in mid-September we can expect the traditional decline in prices by 1,000-1,500 UAH/t, price tags will drop to 12,000-13,000 UAH/t under the pressure of harvest campaign. But in November-December, the range will increase to 17,000-18,000 UAH/t. The seasonal model in general shows a trend of rising prices," the analytical department of PUSK cooperative noted.
According to analysts, the global growth of prices for vegetable oils will also support the level of purchase prices for Ukrainian sunflower.
