According to the results of 2020, Ukraine ranks 54th in the global food security index among almost 120 countries. Although Ukraine's indexes has improved in comparison with 2019, the Deputy Chairman of the UAC Denys Marchuk emphasizes that Ukraine still has perspectives for development, because the country has not yet reached the top of its agricultural potential.

"This is not enough for such an agrarian country as Ukraine. Therefore, last year we earned from exports of agricultural products more than 22 billion dollars, which was about 45% of foreign exchange earnings. However, if you look at other countries, for example Netherlands. This country is much smaller than Ukraine is, but earns much more through the sale of value-added products. That is why we have perspectives for growth. Moreover, the world's population is growing every year and the demand for food will only grow," Denys Marchuk said.

According to the words of the UAC Deputy Chairman, the key to high-quality and fast development of the Ukrainian agricultural sector is the development of the cooperative movement in the country.

"Cooperatives provide an opportunity for small and medium-sized farmers to unite and enter foreign markets on their own, exporting their products. If we take into account that up to 80% of agricultural land in Ukraine is cultivated by small and medium-sized farmers, the potential for development is huge. And for this situation certain conditions have already been created. Nowadays, Ukraine has adopted a new law on agricultural cooperation and the UAC took part in its development. I think that in the coming years we will see a surge in the unification of farmers, who will conquer new markets thanks to cooperatives," Denys Marchuk said.
