Poland's protests against the movement of Ukrainian agricultural products are driven by politics, in particular, the upcoming parliamentary elections. With a healthy approach, the current confrontation could become a platform for common solutions.
Denys Marchuk, the UAC Deputy Chairman (UAC) empathized that to the Commentary portal.
"When enmity is between friends, a third party always benefits. In our case, it is the aggressor country Russia. Therefore, we need to temper our emotions. And realize that there is a war in Ukraine and elections in Poland soon. And one way or another, each side is guided by its own interests. This does not negate the need to think strategically," the expert notes.
According to him, the problem of banning imports of our products through a number of countries, including Poland, is really acute today. And this is really hurting Ukrainian producers.
"First of all, we have a naval blockade by Russia, but we also have reduced levels of land transportation - road and railway. And, of course, we hope that after September 15, these bans will be lifted as it was expected. In order not to overload the territory of Poland with products from Ukraine, we, the specialized associations, have asked the European Commission to find a mechanism for partial compensation for carriers' services. It is important to expand the logistics of the ports of Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania and deliver our products to Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy. But to do this, we need to find ways to compensate carriers," explained Denys Marchuk.
According to him, this would be a good option. Ideally, Poland would join in, helping us in communications with the European Commission.
"In this way, the threat of Ukrainian products on the Polish market (although the situation is politically overheated, in my opinion) would be resolved to everyone's satisfaction. But if we move at the current prices for logistics, we simply will not be able to do everything right. The manufacturer will have more to lose than to gain. And with a healthy approach, the current confrontation could become a platform for common solutions," the expert stated.
