The spring sowing campaign is underway in Ukraine, but in a number of regions there is a lack of personnel to go to the fields.
This was stated by Denys Marchuk, the UAC Chairman, during the national telethon:
"Ukraine has been at war for three years in a row. As a result of mass mobilization, the agricultural sector is experiencing a shortage of personnel, as the population in rural areas has been actively mobilized since the first days of the war. During the spring and autumn sowing campaigns, harvesting, when there are peaks of people going to the fields, there are not enough people. We are concerned about this issue in the context of the new mobilization law, which should take into account the needs of agribusiness. There are reservations in the agricultural sector, but the process takes a long time. It takes 1-2 months from the moment of submitting documents to booking. Accordingly, during this time, a person can be mobilized and his or her work is expected at an agricultural enterprise. In Ukraine, a project of electronic booking was developed, which should take 1-2 days. We are looking forward to its adoption."
In addition to the lack of staff, the lack of funding will affect the future harvest.
"Lack of funding will also have a significant impact on the future harvest, as farmers will use less fertilizer and plant protection products. While last year Ukraine harvested more than 80 million tons of crops, this year's gross harvest of grains and oilseeds is expected to be no more than 75 million tons," added Denys Marchuk.
