As at May 16, sugar beet harvesting in Ukraine was conducted on 280 thousand hectares, which is 94% of the planned areas for this culture.

On May 17, in the first reading, the bill №4532 "On the recognition of the invalidity of certain laws of Ukraine concerning state regulation of production and sale of sugar" was adopted as the basis for the sugar industry.

This document abolishes the norms of the law "On state regulation of production and sale of sugar", which defines the restrictions on the supply of sugar to the domestic market (quota "A") and sets the minimum prices for sugar and sugar beet, as not meeting the objectives.

Due to the changes that have taken place in the domestic and world sugar markets in recent years, the need for administrative regulation introduced by the current Law of Ukraine has become irrelevant. That is why the National Sugar Association of Ukraine has repeatedly stressed the need for adoption of this bill.

Adoption of the bill will contribute to the further development of the industry, since producers are now not restrained by the variable quota situation and they are free to invest long-term investments.
