Ukraine expects changes in the structure of crops during the spring campaign of 2023. According to forecasts, farmers will sow more oilseed crops. A trend for cultivation of niche crops is forming.
Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, Denis Marchuk, states this on the air of the Black Sea Television and Radio Company.
"We shouldn't expect the whole country to be planted with sunflowers, rapeseed and soybeans as there are crop rotation requirements. But the amount of niche crops will increase. There will be more area under buckwheat and peas. The prices are good in the country and their cultivation meets the food security requirements," said Denys Marchuk. A feature of spring sowing in 2023 will be planting on fallow lands.
"We planted 40-45% less winter crop. Farmers who did not sow in autumn left their fields for fallow. But spring crops will be planted on these lands.
The effect of sowing " on fallow lands” will depend on the correct implementation of this technology", - believes Denys Marchuk.
Another problem of the future sowing is the high level of fields mining.
"The east and the north, where the fighting took place, are mined. It is impossible to plant there. Moreover it has a negative impact on the environment," added the deputy head of the UAC.
