In Ukraine, since the beginning of the war, food prices have increased by 20% for a number of reasons. Meanwhile, vegetable prices are restrained by the seasonal factor. At the end of autumn, prices may increase by 10-15%. Prices will be pressured by inflation, disruption of logistics chains, rising fuel prices, energy costs, and product storage costs.
The UAC Deputy Chairman Denys Marchuk announced this on August 22, during the broadcast of Media Center Ukraine-Ukrinform.
"The issue of food prices is very important for Ukrainian families. The population spends more than 50% of their income on food. Inflation, war, disruption of logistics chains, rising fuel prices - these are the components that create price policy for food products. Since the beginning of the war, the prices of all goods have increased by more than 20%. It is August, the season for picking vegetables, so we see prices decrease due to an increase of supply. Potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetables have become cheaper, the seasonal factor will continue until October. Considering the fact that a certain number of Ukrainians went abroad, this also contributed to the reduction of prices for seasonal vegetables. But in autumn, the costs of storing vegetables will increase, so we should expect a 10-15% increase in prices for all groups after October," said Denys Marchuk.
