The market for cuttings
During the third week of September, purchasing prices for live pigs of slaughtered condition remained within the pre-established range. Just like a week earlier, trade was carried out within the range of 47.5-49.5 UAH / kg.
According to the results of previous surveys, most purchasers expected a downward movement in prices in the second half of the month. However, this week the average mark even slightly strengthened, and closer to its completion formed ambiguous forecasts for prices at the end of September.
Although most representatives of the meat processing industry are determined to reduce the cost of buying pork, some operators believe that the traditional autumn fall will not start so quickly. In particular, the purchasers note that the spread of ASFV in the country significantly complicate procurement. At the same time, although the decrease in temperatures has positively influenced the increase in live weight of pigs, the condition of animals remains still heterogeneous.
The traditional autumn increase in pork supply negatively affects the pricing situation in European countries. This, especially against the background of "calmer" fluctuations in exchange rates, makes the domestic meat processor more seriously consider the possibility of purchasing imported raw materials.
With regard to the forecasts of operators in relation to the October "price fall", processors expect prices to fall to their summer level. However, the sharp decline will depend on the course of the bidding in the next couple of weeks.
ASFV
For the period from the beginning of the year, 120 cases of AFSV were recorded. Quarantine measures continue to operate in 44 disadvantaged AFSV posts in 9 regions of Ukraine: Odesa (14), Kherson (8), Donetsk (5), Kyiv (4), Poltava (4), Sumy (3), Cherkassy (3), Mykolaiv (2) and Rivne (1).
The National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine has lost all its four pig farms through the ASFV.
