The market for cuttings
The first week of September brought good news to pork producers: the average price per stalk grew by almost 2%.
So, a week earlier, suppliers of slaughtered pigs ordered the goods for 0.25-1.5 UAH/kg more expensive. Then the buyers showed increased activity, some of them ordered additional volumes. However, in the limited supply of live pork, not all managed to increase the volume of harvesting.
In the beginning of autumn, the purchase price rises to 47-49 UAH/kg, and in western regions and in the south, prices were sometimes higher.
The following week, meat processors expect consolidation of prices within 48-49 UAH/kg, but individual operators do not rule out that the upper limit of prices will reach 50 UAH/kg.
The price situation during the second week of autumn promises to be somewhat calmer compared to the previous one. Thus, the purchase prices of slaughtering pigs were consolidated within the range of 47.5- 49.5 UAH/kg.
In the summer, Ukraine imported 10.5 thousand tons of pork
In the three months of summer, imports of fresh, chilled and frozen pig meat amounted to 10.5 thousand tons (8 times more than in the corresponding period of the last year). These volumes cost almost $ 30 million to importing companies.
Global meat market: prices are weakening
Compared to 2017, this year prices on the global meat market are weaker. This is evidenced by the monthly change in the FAO price index for meat. Thus, in August, the figure increased somewhat in comparison with the July level, but by 4.6 percentage points falls behind last year's level.
African swine fever virus
For the period since the beginning of the year, 117 cases of ASFV were recorded. Quarantine measures continue to operate in 42 disadvantaged ASFV posts in 9 regions of Ukraine: in Odesa (14), Kherson (8), Donetsk (5), Sumy (4), Poltava (3), Kiev (3), Cherkasy (2), Mykolaiv (2) and Rivne (1).
In Kherson, due to the outbreak of African swine fever, a decision was made to ban trade in meat and meat products in the market towns of the Communal Enterprise “Khersonsʹkyy komunalʹnyy rynok” and Servicing Cooperative “Komunalʹnyy rynok”.
