The petition "To protect Ukrainian villages – to postpone until the end of the war the increase in the maximum area of agricultural land in one hand from 100 to 10,000 hectares", initiated by the Public Union "Ukrainian Agri Council" (UAC), has received the required number of votes.

The petition was registered on the website of the President of Ukraine on November 3, 2023, by the Chairman of the UAC, Andrii Dykun, who, on behalf of thousands of agricultural producers, called on Volodymyr Zelenskyi to initiate legislative changes and cancel the 100-fold increase in land sale limits. As of the evening of November 23, the petition had received more than 25,000 votes. Now the President is obliged to respond to it.

"We managed to get the required number of votes thanks to the support of Ukrainians. The UAC thanks all concerned citizens for every vote, for their incredible activity, responsibility and solidarity. Now we are all waiting for the President's decision! I really hope that Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be able to answer the questions of our farmers who are now part of the Armed Forces, risking their lives to defend every meter of Ukrainian land: "Who has the money to buy 10,000 hectares of land during the war in Ukraine? Who are these people who don't know that today's money should be spent primarily on helping the Armed Forces to help them recapture our occupied land and defeat the enemy?" commented Andriy Dykun.

The author of the appeal emphasizes that small and medium-sized agribusinesses, which are the backbone of the agricultural sector and Ukrainian villages, will not be able to become participants in the land market.

"Today, Ukrainian farmers are going through the most difficult times in the history of Ukraine's independence. As a result of the war, agricultural companies have been operating at a loss for the second year in a row, suffering financial losses every day due to blocked ports, logistical problems and low grain prices. Many enterprises have been destroyed, their land is mined, and part of the territory is occupied. Increasing the limit of agricultural land in ownership, under the current conditions, will lead to the purchase of land for nothing by oligarchs and corrupt officials, and medium and small farmers who do not have the funds to buy land and cannot attract loans for this purpose will be cut off from the opportunity to purchase the land on which they work. Therefore, today it is extremely important to save the farmers who give their last to support the Armed Forces, and not those who make money on corruption and war."

The farmers called for keeping the current limit of 100 hectares of land in one enterprise for both legal entities and individuals until the war ends and for another two years after the victory.
