Small and medium-sized agribusinesses produce a total of more than 70% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the agricultural sector, and this category of enterprises needs the most support, especially in the livestock sector.

This problem was emphasized by the Chairman of the UAC Andrii Dykun, during his speech at the Forum on "Transformation of Food Systems in Ukraine" organized by the “German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue” project on October 17-18 in Rome.

"It is a wrong point that only large agricultural holdings are effective in Ukraine and that medium-sized agricultural businesses are ineffective. For example, almost all large agricultural holdings in Ukraine eliminated dairy farming a long time ago. Today, dairy farms, which represent added value and efficiency, are left to small and medium-sized agribusinesses. Medium-sized businesses produce 65% of agricultural GDP, large agribusinesses produce 25%, and small agribusinesses produce 10%, and in general, the share of agribusiness in Ukraine's GDP is 17%," said Andrii Dykun.

He also emphasized that experts estimate that direct losses of the agricultural sector will amount to more than $3 billion by the end of 2023.

"Currently, the survival of agricultural enterprises is the number one issue for our country. We can talk a lot about recovery and how we will integrate after the Victory, but now we have only one strategy - to survive. I hope that representatives of international and European government agencies, non-governmental organizations and professional associations in the field of agricultural policy and rural development will understand that the Ukrainian agricultural sector needs support more than ever, as it is a direct assistance to the Ukrainian economy and our common Victory," added the UAC Chairman.
