In the context of war and financial difficulties, Ukrainian farmers call for suspending loans for enterprises in the temporarily occupied and frontline territories.

This statement was emphasized by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine:

Over the past two years, the UAC and farmers have repeatedly appealed to MPs to suspend loans for enterprises in the temporarily occupied and frontline territories. People who cannot work because of the war cannot service their financial obligations. The corresponding draft law No. 12148, which was signed by 55 MPs and supported by the relevant committee, has not yet been submitted to the session hall. We hope that at least by the end of 2024 it will be submitted for the first reading and work will begin to solve this problem.”

Draft Law No. 12148 provides for a temporary prohibition on the enforcement of debts from producers whose property is located in the zones of hostilities or occupied territories. The law should be in effect for the entire period of martial law and for another year after it ends. This will allow farmers to avoid lawsuits and financial pressure from banks demanding repayment of loans even when their equipment, crops and property remain in the occupied territories.
