The UAC Chairman Andrii Dykun via video to the President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced preventive protest campaign, which is going to take place on May 22 at 10.00. Farmers are going to gather at the main country autobahns. They want to voice about their disagreement with the Ministry’s for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine wish to introduce quotas for fertilizers import to Ukraine.
“Dear Mr. Zelenskiy! I speak to you on behalf of Ukrainian Agri Council and all Ukrainian farmers. We get to know that tomorrow the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine plans to introduce quotas for fertilizers import from other countries. We are talking about European Union countries, the USA and other countries. Ukrainian Agri Council is against fertilizers import from Russia Federation. But, prohibition for fertilizers import from other countries – it’s going to be a crisis for Ukrainian agriculture industry!” – the UAC Chairman mentions.
Andrii Dykun places greater focus that only during the last year farmers had an opportunity to buy fertilizers according to the market-value. Years before, they had very longstanding fight with fertilizes producing monopolist – the company group “OstChem” (the Chairman was Dmytro Firtash). His production in our country was realized with a very high price . Ministry’s for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine decision can only amplify his position and farmers will be obliged to pay more again.
“We are totally against this decision! Besides, farmers will be harmed (and as a result – citizens) and countries, against which sanctions will be introduced, are going to do the same things. We are talking about the main export issues at first instance. It goes without saying – agriculture industry. By introducing quotas, we break the agreement with the World Trade Organization and association with European Union, which we have already signed. There are no economical or logical reasons for such a decision besides one – to give the monopolist to make money out of Ukrainians.” – the UAC Chairman tells.
The UAC Chairman Andrii Dykun requested the President to involve himself in the situation and to adjudicate on the matter.
