To increase the amount of compensation to farmers affected by the drought - on behalf of the UAC participants this statement was made by the UAC Deputy Chairman Mykhailo Sokolov during a meeting of the Agrarian Committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

"The amount that is proposed to be allocated for the program of compensation for crop losses in Odessa region is absolutely insufficient - it is 10 times less than the losses incurred only by farms in Odessa region from the winter crops lost, as well as the area (that will get the compensation) is 10 times less that the area which was occupied by lost winter crops. In addition, the set limit is a compensation for losses of not more than 50 hectares, in fact, leaves without support not only all medium-sized farms, but also a significant part of small farms that cultivate 200-500 hectares. This approach threatens severe social and economic consequences, because medium and small farms (with a cultivation area of 200 to 500 hectares) have the bulk of jobs, land and tax revenues that are at risk to be lost due to drought, "- the UAC Deputy Chairman said.

Moreover, the agrarians of the Odesa region who were affected by the drought are almost completely cut off from state support. They cannot become participants in state support programs to compensate for interest rates on loans due to the refusal of banks to lend to them. They cannot count on the program of compensation for domestic equipment expenses due to lack of free funds. Banks deny them lending and loan restructuring.

The Committee decided to continue discussions on the distribution of state support funds within the subcommittee and to return to it during the next committee meeting.

In addition, Mykhail Sokolov also noted that cooperatives should participate in state programs at the level of farmers. The Economic Development Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi and Chairman of the Agrarian Committee Mykola Solskyi noted that this proposal would be taken into account.
