The introduction of duties on oilseed exports, voted on by the Verkhovna Rada on July 16, could cause farmers billions in losses. The Ukrainian Agri Council will appeal to the President to veto bill No. 13157.

This was stated during the broadcast of “United News” by the Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, Denys Marchuk:

"Export duties on oilseeds contradict the Association Agreement with the EU and were adopted in violation of the regulations. We will appeal to the President of Ukraine to veto the bill and return it for reconsideration, removing the “oilseed amendments.

A decrease in producers' incomes and a reduction in acreage may be a direct consequence of the new legislative changes.

"The introduction of duties on rapeseed and soybean exports will lead to a decrease in domestic prices. As a result, commodity producers, who already bear significant production costs, will receive lower prices for their products. Farmers were counting on income from the sale of oilseeds, but due to the new duties and unfavorable weather conditions, they risk losing more than UAH 17 billion. We already saw a similar situation in 2018, when the so-called “soybean amendments” were adopted: prices initially fell, and the following season, farmers reduced their sowing of these crops," emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the UAС.
