The lack of rainfall in the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine this year has led to losses in oilseed and grain crops. Affected farms need financial support from the state to carry out the autumn sowing campaign.

This information was emphasized by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, in TV nonstop charitable show ‘Yedyni Novyny’:

"In a number of regions that specialize in growing oilseeds, in particular sunflowers, the lack of sufficient rainfall has led to significant losses. Despite the difficult weather conditions, this season's harvest will fully meet Ukraine's domestic demand for oil and maintain its export potential. However, corn crops have also been affected. According to our estimates, the drought has destroyed crops on an area of more than 500,000 hectares. Some producers in Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions have already plowed their fields for winter crops but do not have the funds for sowing. We are appealing to the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine to find a way to provide support per hectare to ensure work in the fields and food security for the next season".

Ukraine has already harvested about 24.8 million tons of grains and legumes, and the numbers are expected to grow.

"Compared to last year, we're about two weeks behind schedule this season because of the weather — both the drought and heavy rain in July. Despite crop losses in some regions, yields are higher in other areas, which gives reason to hope for a harvest no worse than last year — about 56 million tons, of which at least 40 million tons can be exported," said the Deputy Chairman of the UAC.
