The Ukrainian Agri Forum (UAF), which includes the Ukrainian Agri Council (UAC), has appealed to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to extend the deadline for obtaining the criticality status and reserving employees of agricultural enterprises until 31 March 2025.

In their official appeal, the farmers emphasized the difficult situation around the implementation of the current legislation on reservation of employees of enterprises that was critical for maintaining the combat capability of military formations, the functioning of the national economy and food security of the country.

“We ask to extend the deadline for obtaining the criticality status by agribusiness entities until 31 March 2025 and to extend the validity of previous decisions on the reservation of their employees accordingly” the letter said.

Farmers note that the procedure for obtaining criticality status is complex and time-consuming. The situation is exacerbated by technical problems that arose due to malfunctions in state registries after a hacker attack on 19 December 2024. Since then, the process has been virtually halted for a month and resumed only on 20 January 2025.

“Over the past few days, a huge number of farmers have been contacting all members of the UAF with concerns about the formation of long queues for criticality status and the inability to complete the process of reserving workers on time” the representatives of the agricultural sector emphasized.

The UAF calls on the government to make a decision to extend the reserving period as soon as possible to ensure the stable operation of the agricultural sector, which is key to Ukraine's economy and food security.

The farmers hope for a prompt response of the government and a decision that will allow agricultural enterprises to operate in difficult wartime and prepare for the sowing season.

The appeal was signed by the heads of leading agricultural associations:

Director of the Ukrainian Agrian Forum Maria Didukh, Chairman of the Agrarian Union of Ukraine Gennadiy Novikov, Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council Andrii Dykun, Executive Director of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine Serhii Karpenko, President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Leonid Kozachenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Oleh Khomenko, Director General of the Association of Milk Producers Hanna Lavreniuk, President of the Pig Producers of Ukraine Oksana Yurchenko, Head of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine Yana Kavushevska.
