Ukrainian Agri Council initiated an appeal to the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Ihor Petrashko to resolve the problematic situation at the grain market due to the drought. A corresponding letter was sent to the Ministry on behalf of the Ukrainian Agrarian Forum, which unites leading agrarian associations.
This year, the southern regions of Ukraine have suffered from an unprecedented drought. Many agricultural producers, especially in Odesa region, have lost their crops completely. Some farms did not collect crops in the volumes that were planned. That is why farmers are not able to fulfill their obligations to supply agricultural products according to the issues of forward contracts.
"At the same time, there was a situation when some farmers were not informed about the appropriate actions in this situation, or were not able to document the force majeure, which made loss of crops. As a result, there was a threat of sanctions by contractors identified in the relevant agreements, which provide for the supply of agricultural products. We showed all losses at the agricultural industry of Ukraine,” - this information is mentioned in the statement.
This situation needs to be resolved immediately. Therefore, farmers call on the Minister to organize a meeting with the involvement of agrarian associations and market representatives in order to find a compromise problem solution.
