Poor weather conditions prevent farmers from harvesting corn crop this year. Today, approximately 40% of this culture has been collected. This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the UAC, Denis Marchuk, during a briefing at the "Ukraine Media Center".

"Farmers who have not harvested corn this year will not sow next year. This will lead to a decrease in the cultivated area of this crop. However, it will not affect the country's food security. In general, we have good yield indicators - approximately 55 million tons for all agricultural crops. This is less than last year. But in the conditions of war, occupation and economic losses, this is the indicator that guarantees food security," he said.

According to him, farmers are currently finishing the sowing of winter crops. 95% has already been sown, but the area has decreased by about 40%.

"We will fully provide consumption in Ukraine for all the crops we grow. Because we grow 3-4 times more than we consume. However, the decrease in cultivated areas will affect the country's economy, since the agrarian sector is export-oriented and before the war it provided 40% of the country's foreign exchange earnings, " Marchuk said.

The spring sowing campaign is difficult to predict today. Many fields are mined, agricultural enterprises are destroyed. Damages reach more than 40 billion dollars.

"In such conditions, it is very difficult to guarantee 100% sowing. Yes, it will be, but we will be able to talk about the scale of areas and crops sown in February, " he said.
