This issue was announced by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, in an interview with the Commentary publication.

According to his words, demand for the new wheat harvest has already been formed on the world markets, but it is hardly contracted in Ukraine due to the unclear situation with the “grain corridor”.

"For us, the issue of the “grain corridor”, which is periodically blocked by Russia, remains very relevant. This is reflected primarily in business operations. The March statement by the aggressor country that the agreement was extended for only 60 days (ending on May 18) has already led to the fact that no transportation through the ports of Odesa is actually contracted. Accordingly, this reduces prices. After all, there is more supply than demand in the domestic market. All this negatively affects the agricultural sector," said Denys Marchuk.

Today, small ports are actively involved, and transportation across the Danube is increasing. But there are limitations there due to the objective inability to export the required volumes. Currently, Ukraine still has got about 8 million tons of wheat from last year's harvest. The EU countries that share a border with Ukraine also restricted our agricultural exports for a certain period of time. However, a solution has been found for the land corridors, and transit through 5 EU countries (Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia) will continue.

"Our diplomacy has concentrated powerful efforts to ensure that the “grain deal” is extended and works more effectively. Relevant statements were made by the G7, the UN, the US and Turkey. The FAO has repeatedly called on Russia not to interfere with the movement of food, including food that goes to countries in dire need, such as African countries. But the upcoming negotiations, the dates of which are constantly shifting (first it was May 3, now it's May 5), are unlikely to be easy. Unlike Russia, we have never violated the Istanbul agreements signed last July. We are ready to sell, and the world is ready to buy our products," said the Deputy Chairman of the UAC.

He added that the goals of the Ukrainian agricultural community remain unchanged: full exports should be launched. And, of course, the grain deal should work smoothly and indefinitely.
