In 2020, dairy farms are planning to commission 58 livestock facilities with a total capacity of more than 8,000 cows and over 22,000 cattle heads.
The Vice-President of AVM Anna Lavrenyuk has informed about it with reference to the data of the Ministry of Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine.
“This information is completely in line with the first results of a survey conducted by the Association of dairy producers of Ukraine. Our experts have already interviewed almost 200 dairy farms about the results of their business activities in 2019 and plans for the 2020s. The survey is ongoing, but over 20% of the farms surveyed are planning to build new or renovate existing dairy farms this year. More than 10% said that, despite the high cost of milk and raw materials, they will continue to reduce livestock, in particular through culling for productivity – it is affected by uncertainty about the state strategy of dairy cattle breeding and risks of starting land circulation without incentive conditions for farms that have MTPs, ”she stressed.
However, more than 15% of the surveyed enterprises, on the contrary, plan to increase their livestock. Just as many farms, while not considering capital investment or expansion, will work to increase herd productivity and profitability of milk production. More than 10% of respondents are considering buying new MTF equipment.
"AVM Back Office is continuing the survey and will be ready to release the results during the 13th International Dairy Congress, March 3-4, 2020. Farms are set to not give up and plan, despite the difficult economic and political situation in the industry, to seek additional reserves for the profitability of the dairy farm, as the present requires, ”she emphasized.
