This year, corn crops production might be reduced by approximately 20%. This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the UAC, Denis Marchuk, on the "Society: News" broadcast.

"Approaching the active stage of preparation for spring planting, we note that the area under traditional crops will be significantly reduced. Today, about 500,000 hectares of fields remain unharvested from last year's harvest, as its harvesting was hindered by both unfavorable weather conditions and economic and logistical factors. The areas planted with corn will be reduced by approximately 20%," he said.

In addition to hostilities and mined fields, spring sowing will be affected by high prices for fertilizers, plant protection products, equipment components, and energy sources.

"Farmers will diversify their risks. Most likely, there will be a change of cultures. Instead of corn, they will plant soybeans, sunflowers, and rapeseed. These crops show higher marginality. Also, some agricultural producers are shifting  on niche crops such as buckwheat, peas, beans, vegetables," Marchuk explained.

At the same time, he noted that today it is extremely important to preserve export directions. The preparation of farmers for sowing will also depend on what signals our grain corridor partners (Turkey, UN) will give us.
