The production of milk and sugar is declining in Ukraine because prices for these foods are rising sharply.
This year, for the first time, Ukraine has become a net importer of dairy products - since the beginning of the year, the volume of imports significantly exceeds exports. We have such a situation because of a significant reduction in the number of cows in the industrial sector, which provides more than 80% of milk for processing. Last year, Ukraine lost about 33,000 cows. This year the trend continues - 1.5-2 thousand heads are lost every month.
Negative trends are also observed in the sugar industry. Due to difficult weather conditions, the yield of sugar beets decreased (42 tons per hectare this year against 44.7 tons per hectare compared to last year) and their sugar content. The beginning of the sugar production season was postponed for 3 weeks because of the drought. This year, Ukraine will produce 28,000 tons less sugar than last year.
How to prevent a reduction in dairy production and sugar, stimulate the development of industries and what will happen to prices - this will be discussed during the press conference "Ukraine without milk and sugar - why production is reduced".
