The UAC Chairman Andrii Dykun spoke at the international forum “Transformation of Food Systems in Ukraine” which was held in Rome.
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of imposing sanctions against Russia, in particular in the context of the Trilateral Declaration signed by Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland. The proposed measures include a ban on imports of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus to the EU, restrictions on the transit of such products through the EU, and prohibition on Russian farmers' access to advanced technologies and equipment.
“These sanctions are critically important for deterring Russian and Belarusian aggression in the agricultural sector. They will help protect the Ukrainian agricultural sector and ensure stability in the EU,” emphasized Andrii Dykun.
The forum also raised the issue of supporting Ukrainian farmers, in particular through fertilizer subsidies and a stable EU agricultural policy that would facilitate Ukraine's European integration. In addition, Andrii Dykun for the first time introduced a new term - IDF (internally displaced farmers), which refers to farmers who have lost their property and business due to the war but are forced to repay their loans. He called on the international community to provide these farmers with adequate support.
During the forum, representatives of the EU, the US and the members of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) discussed Ukraine's role in ensuring global food security and opportunities for sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
Andrii Dykun summarized: “Supporting the Ukrainian agricultural sector is a direct assistance to the Ukrainian economy and our common victory.”
