Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council Andrii Dykun has held a working meeting with MEP Nikos Papandreou, who represents Greece and is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Committee on Health of the European Parliament. Mr. Papandreou is a member of the group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the second largest political force in the European Parliament.
The meeting focused on key issues of Ukraine's European integration, support for the Ukrainian agricultural sector, as well as information challenges, in particular, the impact of Russian propaganda on public opinion in the EU.
"Unfortunately, Russian propaganda actively promotes the idea that the Ukrainian agricultural sector threatens European farming. And we can already see this idea spreading among politicians and agricultural associations in the EU," said Andrii Dykun.
Nikos Papandreou, for his part, confirmed the unchanged position of his political group in support of Ukraine:
"The parliamentarians of this group have consistently condemned Russia's aggression against Ukraine and firmly support the Ukrainian people in their quest for freedom, democracy and integration into the EU, calling on the European Union to provide us with humanitarian, military and reconstruction assistance. I thanked him for his position and support!" said the UAC Chairman.
According to Andrii Dykun, S&D Group advocated the extension of trade preferences for Ukraine, supporting the introduction of protective mechanisms in case of significant fluctuations in the European agricultural market.
"We talked about working together towards Ukraine's European integration. This issue is a constant agenda in all my meetings with European colleagues," added Andrii Dykun.
