On Wednesday, July 22, in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, a round table "Strategy for the development of the irrigation system of Ukraine" will be held.

The issue of field irrigation became especially relevant this year, when the South of Ukraine was harmed by an abnormal drought. Farmers from Odesa region lost a third of the winter crops. At a time when the area of ​​irrigated land in the world is increasing every year, in Ukraine it is rapidly decreasing. Nowadays in our country about 2,17 million hectares of irrigated land, of which, due to the decline of most irrigation systems, only about 500 thousand hectares are irrigated. The irrigation system of Ukraine needs to be restored as soon as possible, and it is necessary to work out an effective mechanism for its restoration.

During the event, agricultural producers, scientists, representatives of the executive branch from various levels and MPs will discuss the strategy of development of the Ukrainian irrigation system and the economic efficiency of the energy service program, present the concept of the bill on the establishment and operation of water users' associations (WUA).
