Leading agrarian associations – the Ukrainian Agri Council, the Agrarian Union of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Association of Communities - appealed to the newly appointed Prime Minister Denys Shmigal regarding the announced resumption of work of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy as a separate agency.
Representatives of the agrarian community emphasized that they welcome this decision. After all, the industry that gives the country 17% of GDP and 40% of foreign exchange earnings should have a profile ministry, whose work will be aimed at defending the interests of the industry, including international ones.
At the same time, the agrarians emphasized that today the issue of restoring trust between the agrarian community and the government is as important as ever. After all, farmers already have negative experience with the activities and decisions of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation and the government of Volodymyr Groysman. These are the consequences of unfair and illegal distribution of state subsidies in 2017-2018, and the introduction of discriminatory soybean amendments, corruption in the State Geocadastre, and monopolization of the mineral fertilizers market.
"That is why we believe that agrarian issues should be taken care of by a person that comes from an agrarian community, is a representative of small and medium-sized farmers, and is not agrarian oligarchs or official nomenclature. Only such a person can not only understand the needs and problems of agrarians, new challenges and professional implementation of necessary reforms, but also give farmers a confidence that good slogans do not hide the next deception, that the government can be trusted, and therefore, they can continue to invest, create jobs and develop industries "- as it was noted in circulation.
Agrarians have expressed confidence that among a considerable number of worthy candidates, Prime Minister will elect the Ministry of Agrarian Policy "a professional, honest and decent person, who will be assured by both the government and farmers."
