Ukraine continues to export barley steadily, with exports totaling 207,000 tons in September. Ukrainian barley remains in some demand on the international markets, with 160,000 tons already contracted for October.

This issue was reported by the analysts of the First Ukrainian Agricultural Cooperative (FUAC), created within the UAC.

“In October, we expect barley exports of about 200,000 tons. The key export destinations are Turkey, Greece, Italy, Algeria and Morocco,” the experts said.

Barley prices have also started to move up due to the growing demand for feed crops, in particular corn and wheat.

“The barley market is expected to show a slight increase in the coming weeks. We predict that the conditional export prices for this grain will be around USD174-175 per ton at the beginning of next week,” the analysts said.

The role of the domestic market has also grown significantly: farmers are interested in selling barley to Ukrainian processors.

“We are seeing increased demand for barley from pig and fodder producers, which creates an attractive level of purchase prices for agricultural producers up to 7,500 UAH/t. This may be more profitable than delivering barley to the port. Barley trade in ports will be less active than in the domestic market,” the FUAC mentioned.

According to the experts, the domestic market will consume 300,000-400,000 tons of barley per month, which makes it a key factor in pricing.
