“DFU Agro” LLC (Zhytomyr Oblast), owned by the Danish Berry Farm, may lose up to $ 300,000 in case of a crop loss due to a land conflict with “Gorodok-Agro” LLC.
Vadim Shestakov, director of the “DFU Agro” LLC, announced this at a press conference on July 2, 2019 in Kyiv.
He says that the company cultivates 1.2 thousand hectares of land in the Zhytomyr Oblast based on the agreement with the village councils on heritage management since 2014. In November 2018, “Gorodok-Agro” LLC leased several land plots, including 250 hectares, which were already leased by “DFU Agro” LLC. Until 2018, this was impossible due to the specific nature of the legislation. “DFU Agro” LLC seeded this plot with winter rapeseed and rye in August-September 2018, that is, BEFORE it was leased to “Gorodok-Agro” LLC. Now “Gorodok-Agro” LLC is clsiming a harvest from this area.
“We offered companies a similar plot of cultivated land (250 hectares), but they offered us in the ultimate form to sell the rest of our land in these territories. In May 2019, we contacted the Anti-raiding Committee. In June 2019, most members of the Committee expressed the opinion that "Gorodok Agro" LLC has no right to harvest, but has the right to compensation," said the director of "DFU Agro" LLC Vadim Shestakov.
He also noted that “DFU Agro” LLC agrees with the compensation, but it has not been possible to agree on terms of compensation with opponents.
"Our losses in the case of harvesting our opponent will amount to $100-300 thousand. We are ready to harvest and transfer to responsible storage to a third party," said Vadim Shestakov.
“DFU Agro” LLC has already received support from the Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration, ACC, EBA, the Danish Embassy, the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), the State Fund of Denmark and the Zhytomyr Police.
The second meeting of the anti-raiding committee will take place today.
